The Event
The National and International Meeting of Women in Roda de Samba is an annual event that had its first edition on November 24, 2018. Created by the Brazilian singer Dorina, the project aims to unite female samba circles, as well as samba singers and other instrumentalists from all over the world, creating a network between artists and increasing cultural exchanges, in addition to contributing to strengthening the dissemination of the female power of music, specially in samba to the public.
The debut brought together several Brazilian cities such as: Belo Horizonte and Juiz de Fora (MG), Brasília (DF), Curitiba and Londrina (PR), Florianópolis (SC), Fortaleza (CE), Maceió (AL), Recife (PE), Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Salvador (BA) and São Paulo (SP). In addition to the Brazilian cities, it was held in the neighboring cities of La Plata and San Martín de los Andes, in Argentina. Now the event is held in 43 cities, 9 countries and on 3 continents
We are a connection channel that brings together women’s projects in the world of music, more specifically in samba. The main objective is to establish a network of visibility for women who work within the universe of samba, shortening the physical distance and expanding the possibilities of work. Thus, it is a free showcase for the promotion of each artist and facing the barriers that make it impossible for women to participate in samba and other music circles.
The 7th National and International Meeting of Women in Roda de Samba – 2024 will take place on November 30, 2024 at 5:00 pm Brasilia time and will honor Aurea Martins and Clementina de Jesus.
